There are a number of ways you can save on healthcare costs, including taking advantage of government-sponsored savings programs. You can apply for these programs at any time.

Medicaid

Helps pay for Medicare Part A and Part B deductibles and copays.

If you’re approved:

  • You’ll pay $0 for covered doctor visits, hospital stays, and lab tests.
  • You may also get help with part D prescription drugs through Medicare’s Low-Income Subsidy (LIS) program, also called Extra Help

Extra Help (Low Income Subsidy)

Offers savings on Part D (prescription drug) deductibles, copays, and premiums. If you’re eligible, you’ll pay:

  • $0 plan premium
  • $0 deductible
  • Low cost drug copays

You’ll get Extra Help automatically if you have:

  • Full Medicaid Coverage
  • A Medicare Savings Program
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payments from Social Security

EPIC (Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage)

Helps pay for Medicare Part D (prescription drug coverage) out-of-pocket drug costs and premium payments for those on Medicare who don’t get full Medicaid benefits.

If you also qualify for the Extra Help program, you can get additional help paying for your prescription drugs.

Medicare Savings Program

The MSP helps pay for monthly Medicare Part B premiums and qualifies you for programs that lower drug plan costs such as deductibles.

Depending on your income, it may also pay for other cost-sharing expenses.

Eligibility is based on your household income with no limit on assets. You could qualify if you’re:

  • Single and making less than $2,494/month
  • Married and making less than $3,375/month
