New York – Managed Health, Inc., which was the legal name of the managed care company that has offered Healthfirst’s Medicare Advantage plans since 1998, has been renamed Healthfirst Health Plan, Inc. The name change affects no other Healthfirst plan or line of business, nor any existing Healthfirst Medicare benefits or contracts, but it does help Healthfirst strengthen brand recognition in its New York service area.
While the company had always done business as “Healthfirst Medicare Plan” and “Healthfirst New York,” the legal name Managed Health, Inc. had been used in contracts and other legal documents. Healthfirst determined that this had created confusion, particularly in cases where published reports and plan rankings used the name Managed Health, Inc.
Though it has a new name, Healthfirst Health Plan remains part of the Healthfirst family of companies which are sponsored by leading New York City–area hospitals. The company continues to offer Medicare Advantage plans that have earned 4 Stars for quality for the second year in a row. This name change will affect neither the benefits Healthfirst members receive nor the current contractual obligations between Healthfirst and any provider or vendor.

It now offers The Essential Plan, lower-cost health plan options for qualifying individuals.
