NEW YORK, NY, November 3, 2014 – Healthfirst, a not-for-profit managed care organization offering health insurance to individuals and families living in the New York metropolitan area, announced today that its Healthfirst Leaf Plans, which are Qualified Health Plans (QHP) available on the New York State of Health: The Official Plan Marketplace, received New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) approval to offer decreased premium rates effective January 1, 2015.
Eligible individuals may sign up for Healthfirst Leaf Plans with lower rates through the Marketplace during the upcoming enrollment period, starting on November 15, 2014. Healthfirst Leaf Plans cover preventive and basic healthcare needs including doctor’s visits, hospital stays, emergency care, maternity and newborn care, and a number of additional services. Healthfirst will also newly offer Healthfirst Leaf Premier Plans, which add enhanced benefits such as adult dental and adult vision coverage in 2015.
This means that a Healthfirst Leaf Plan member in New York City or Long Island will now have a decrease in monthly premium cost of more than 10 percent from the 2014 monthly rate.
“We are extremely pleased to receive this approval and to offer consumers top-notch health care at an affordable price through our large network of New York’s finest hospitals and providers, “said Pat Wang, Healthfirst CEO. “Reducing the number of uninsured and underinsured in the communities we serve is our priority.”
