Healthfirst Hosts Community Beautification Project in Brownsville
Giving Back to the Community with a Paint Party
NEW YORK, NY, October 20, 2017 – On Thursday, October 5, Healthfirst hosted a beautification Paint Party in Brownsville, Brooklyn. More than 350 residents, students, and volunteers gathered to paint the fences at the Van Dyke and Tilden Housing Developments. The Paint Party was an effort to give back to the Brownsville community and foster deeper relationships with the residents.
“Healthfirst is committed to supporting and beautifying the communities we serve. Collaboration between community members and our employees is an important part of our corporate social responsibility and brings added awareness to the Brownsville Healthy Village,” stated George Hulse, Healthfirst Vice President, Community Engagement. “Community wellness goes beyond clinical health. We aim to create and sustain a culture of well-being through engagement activities and health education programs.”
As a Healthy Village initiative, this event brought in volunteers from both the Claremont and Brownsville Healthy Villages, including students from area high schools and middle schools, members of the William Hodson Senior Center, and the Claremont Neighborhood Center.
“This is a community empowerment day that really helps to uplift and beautify the neighborhood,” stated Assemblywoman Latrice Walker. “This event tells the people of Brownsville that we are here to support them, not only to paint and beautify the neighborhood, but also help them with their social and health needs,” added New York State Senator Roxanne Persaud.
In addition to the painting project, Healthfirst offers free exercise and nutritional classes through the Brownsville Healthy Village. The Healthy Village program uses an integrated approach to address care gaps and improve outcomes for New York’s City’s most vulnerable and underserved communities.
This event was made possible through partnerships with New York City Housing Resident Association, Brownsville Multi-Service Family Health Center (BMS), Medgar Evers College, Brownsville Justice Center, DentaQuest, and Jobs Plus.
