A Celebration and Special Power Breakfast Presented by Healthfirst
NEW YORK, NY, December 12, 2016 Healthfirst joined the New York Christian Times and the Black Churches Mean Business Coalition in celebrating the life and work of revered Congressman Charles Rangel at a commemorative breakfast held at the Alhambra Ballroom in Harlem. Specially invited guests included Councilwoman Inez Dickens, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer, former New York City Mayor David Dinkins, Congressman Donald Payne, and Department of Small Business Services Commissioner Gregg Bishop.
“Healthfirst is proud to honor an extraordinary public figure who dedicated his life and work to advancing equality for minority communities,” said George Hulse, Healthfirst Vice President, Community Engagement. “Over the years, he has empowered and transformed minority communities with his low-income tax credit and empowerment zone legislation. He’s served as a fierce political champion for Harlem and the entire city.”
Congressman Charles Rangel is one of New York’s most prolific political figures. He has represented Harlem for almost half a century. Congressman Rangel was the first African American to lead the House Ways and Means Committee. He tenaciously advocated for the creation of the Earned Income Tax Credit in 1976 and for the inclusion of the low-income housing credit in the Tax Reform Act of 1986. Congressman Rangel’s contributions and indelible legacy will endure with the people of Harlem and the city long after he retires from office.
